| * The certification
maintenance standard gives the certificate holder the autonomy to select
professional development activities in which new knowledge and skills
will be acquired or current knowledge and skills will be enhanced. The
knowledge and skills are those necessary for the independent practice of
any area of the professions and in any practice setting. Selecting
appropriate professional development activities should be based on the
following criteria: 1) activities where the content is related to the
science and contemporary practice of the professions of Speech-Language
Pathology, Audiology or the Speech/Language/Hearing Sciences, 2)
activities in which the knowledge and skills you will learn are relevant
and meaningful to your specific area of practice and practice setting,
and 3) activities that your clients, other health professionals, and the
ASHA Code of Ethics would recognize as related to the professions and
relevant to your area of practice and practice setting. **Pre-approval is not
required for the purpose of maintaining the CCC’s. Only ASHA CEUs will be
maintained on the CE Registry; all other activities must be documented by the
individual certificate holders and must include a certificate of
attendance/completion (or copy of college transcript) that confirms the title of
the activity, name of the sponsor for the activity, name of the participant,
date and number of contact hours. Individuals who are randomly selected for
audit for maintenance of CCC’s must provide documentation for any activity that
is not offered through ASHA-approved CE Providers. Activity content must meet
ASHA's definition of professional development.

requirements for maintenance of CCC's should be directed to ASHA at 800-498-2071
